Local Texans with German ancestry will have a rare opportunity to question an expert at the next meeting of the Kingsland Genealogical Society of the Highland Lakes (KGS).  The session will be Tuesday, May 13, at 2 p.m. at the Kingsland Branch Library, 125 W. Polk, and the guest speaker will be Elizabeth “Liz” Hicks of Houston, Genealogy Editor for the German-Texan Heritage Society.  The meeting is open to the public and visitors are welcome.

The program is titled “All I Know Is, Great-Grandpa Came From Germany” and will be a basic information session for researching a German ancestor.  Topics will include where basic records are located, how to use naturalization records and ships’ passenger lists, name and spelling changes, census clues, helpful Websites, and other sources.  There will also be a display of books held at the library, dealing with German immigrants to the U.S
