By David Waters, Assistant SuperintendentAs the Spring Semester gets into full swing, schools all across Texas are preparing for the first major textbook adoption in several years. This year, the public schools of Texas are adopting instructional materials for Math (Kindergarten through 8th grade), Science (Kindergarten through 12th grade) and Technology Applications (Kindergarten through 12th grade).

In order for any material to be considered by school districts, it must meet the adoption criteria set by the Texas Education Agency and pass review by the State Board of Education. This year’s list of materials numbered over 400, leaving a large task for districts as they search to find materials that best meet the needs of their students.

Llano teachers have been reviewing materials for several weeks. Our staff is focusing on several of the larger more established publishers as well as some online materials. In just a few weeks, we hope to narrow down our choices and hear presentations from the publishers we feel best suit the needs of the district. Ultimately, the textbook selection committee hopes to have a recommendation for the school board at the regular scheduled meeting in March.

Llano ISD also wants to extend the invitation for any LISD residents to review the materials considered for adoption. While we are certainly not reviewing all 400+ options we will make available the very same materials we are considering for use in Llano ISD
